IF WE COME BACK TO TUSCANY, WE WILL STAY HERE AGAIN - NV's review

@ Il Glicine

If you are looking or somewhere to stay close to Siena, this should be the one you choose. It is in a beautiful, quiet location. The apartments are lovely, and the grounds are well taken care of. The owner and his wife are delightful. My Husband and I never wanted to leave! All of the main towns are within day trip distance, and very easy to drive to. If we come back to Tuscany, we will stay here again, and I would advise anyone else to do the same!

A PERFECT RESPITE TO RETURN TO AFTER FOR OUR BUSY TRAVEL DAYS! - ROSE's review

@ Le Rose

GREAT LOCATION for centrality to various wine regions. Easy access to Siena (at only about 10k /10 minutes away), easy and personable innkeepers Massimo and Claudia were great communicators, and easy living in the quiet, restful hamlet of Poggio. Stayed in apartment "Le Rose", which was perfect for two couples with well-equipped kitchen, fireplace in living room and nice bath - A large, comfortable space. We went in the Autumn, so not able to have meals outdoors, but the patio and pool would have been wonderful to use had the weather been warmer. Set in a peaceful orchard surrounded by farmlands - a perfect respite to return to after for our busy travel days!

THAT'S WHY WE WERE SAD TO LEAVE AFTER 8 DAYS... - INGRID's review

@ Il Girasole

Traveling to Poggio, we did not know what to expect. After we arrived - and after a warm and friendly welcome by Massimo - we went to our appertment, Il Girasole. This appartment was during a week our place tot live and to enjoy the real Italian live and spirit.
The location of Pggio is realy exiting! Almost 'at the end of the world' in an small village of about 10 houses. Quiet and nice, between de hills and fruit trees and vinyards.
Also this location is top of the bill if you want to explore Toscany: all the famous and less famous towns and villages are within a short drive.
Massimo, the owner and host, his wife Claudia and last but not least Giotto, the dog (his only job is to welcome and entertain the guests) are very kind and friendly and they do everyrthing to let you feel good and to heve a nice time there.
That's why we were sad to leave after 8 days...
To everyone who wants to travel to Toscany we want to say: go to Poggio and you won't regret it!!

AMAZING DOWN TO EARTH PEOPLE WITH A QUIET SPOT TO RECHARGE. - VV's review

@ Le Rose

Amazing down to earth people with a quiet spot to recharge. Less than 10k drive to Siena; easy access to Florence, Chianti region, Montalcino, etc.

If your travel style is with camera and Rick Steve's in hand, these well-furnished villa apartments in the countryside may not be your preference. But, if you want to really live la dolce vita and enjoy waking to birds singing or toasting a Tuscan sunset, you will love this place.

Check directions ahead when you travel because the usual highway exit is closed for reconstruction (requires slight but scenic reroute as of June, 2011).

There are only three main villa apartments so you never feel crowded. Other guests are from all over Europe and North America. We meet really great people every year. (part of the whole experience; even poking fun at the Californians having trouble with the whole "relax" concept!).

This was my fourth year at Poggio, spending full two-weeks of vacation here as "base" and venturing out to explore Tuscany on day trips or just going for walks and reading by the pool. Traveling with friends and family, we save a LOT by cooking our own meals at the apartment plus having the freedom to eat whenever we feel hungry. And, dining "in" means no worry about driving after a few glasses...

Yeah, this is a raving review but the experience at Poggio is real and so is the recommendation.

MOST BEAUTIFUL HOUSE I'VE EVER SEEN - ANA's review

@ Pienza

l salcio is the most beautiful house I´ ve ever seen. It´ s settled in the countryside, with open views all around. Only looking out of your window is like seeing a picture. We have stayed in Pienza´ s apartment, the smallest one. Eventhough, all the space upstairs was unuseful for us, as it´ s so big for 2. Even 4 people could stay comfortably in it. We have choosen it because of its 3 panoramic windows to the countryside and didn´t dissapoint us! It has a big bathroom, with 2 showers and the WC separated from the rest, very modern. The bed is BIG,fantastic! The only down thing for me is the lack of shutters,as I need absolute darkness to sleep in the morning.Eventhough there are courtains, they don´t stop all the sunlight, but it works well for those who have the capacity to sleep with a little amount of light (fortunate them)! The kitchen has ALL the appliances you could need, more than in my own house. All is brand new but, as in the whole house, there is a perfect mix between the modern and the classic elements. The design Laura has made is incredible perfect, as in a house from a design magazine. From the ”cotto” floor to the wooden ceiling, from the lighting to the modern and pure colours furniture, all matchs perfectly with the surroundings. All the apartments are in the first floor of the building and there is a lift too! The outside places have been my favourites: the ”porch”with a part inside the house but glazed from floor to ceiling, and the pergola place, with some tables, lounges and chairs to dine, breakfast or rest. And what to tell about the sunsets from the verandah! Apart from the house, the hosts are incredible friendly and accesible. It´ s a bit difficult to find Il Salcio for the first time by night, and Amedeo came to ”rescue” us with his car when we got lost. Laura takes care of everything for your wellbeing: lits every night candles in the stairs for you, and every space is parfumed with parfum sticks, takes care that there is enough coffee for the Nespresso machine for the guests in the hall, and provides you all the information you need to explore the Val D´ Orcia region, the region we´ve loved the most of all Tuscany. Thanks a lot of this fantastic place

FABULOUS VILLA - SHAUN's review

@ San Giovanni

We stayed at the villa for a week in September 2011. On the day we arrived we were late and hadn't had any dinner so Marcella immediately made us feel very welcome by cooking us a lovely pasta dinner.
The villa, the location and the pool were all first class but the best thing about the stay was how wonderful the Faneschi's were as hosts.
I would recommend the villa to anyone and would have no hesitation in returning

ABSOLUTE COMFORT - DORTOTHY's review

@ Appartamento Porcilaia

While visiting Italy last month we had a week in Tuscany staying in Siena at this villa. We could not have been more comfortable anywhere and we can not put into words all that we would wish to say. As the larger of the two villas was already rented we took the smaller one which worked out great for us, two senior couples one from Canada the other from Australia. We were thrilled to find it exactly as the pictures show it, spotlessly clean and set out with care. The little extra touches made this rental accomodation feel more like a home. The pool is big enough to have fun and it too is very clean and well maintained. Francesca and her son Alessandro were very warm and welcoming and gave us information we needed to get about. Francesca and her family do a wonderful job of keeping the villas in top condition. You will find that Francesca is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. We rented a car and did day trips from the villa which worked out great. If we ever get the chance to visit Siena again we will not hesitate to stay here and we will recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet, restful place minutes outside Siena itself. Our favourite village had to be Montalcino which we came upon while looking for the Banfi Winery. What a wonderful old place Montalcino is and so high up on a hill that the views are amazing. If you get the chance to go there give yourself lots of time to explore both the fort and the village itself. We had lunch at a little restaurant, in their outside eating area, which sits in a small park with a great view. The food and the service was excellent and the waitress went out of her way to be friendly and helpful. I just wish we had thought to write down the name of the restaurant for this review. Thank you Francesca from 4 very grateful and satisfied visitors D, C, S and L.

THE MOST MARVELLOUS HOLIDAY IN TUSCANY - JOHN 's review

@ La Quercia

John planned the most marvellous holiday in Tuscany, Italy, for the summer. We had the most marvellous time with Gioya and Marcello and his wife, they were lovely hosts.
We had a very joyful afternoon tea and BBQ with them where the fact that we spoke hardly and Italian and Marcello hardly any English made no difference at all. We were in a lonely farmhouse down a dirt and pitted track, deep in the Massa Maritima forests, with a glorious infinity pool that overlooked wooded valleys, volcanoes and surprisingly the chimneys of the Italian volcano-thermo electricity generations systems. The cooling towers were a bit like an elegant Didcot in the woods! But Italy, to her credit, has no nuclear power and 30% is generated using the earth’s heat and with photovoltaic (solar power) an easy option most houses are independent with ultra local cheap supplies. We visited Pisa and never realised how much more there was to the complex around the Torre Pendente (Leaning Tower). We all exhausted ourselves climbing up it - the lean has the odd effect of making you feel you are going down as you go up and then when you climb, in parts, it’s like the north face of the Eiger! Florence was lovely, Siena not our favourite, but the Roman and Etruscan towns of Volterra, Massa Maritima, Montereggione and San Gimignano were wonderful. Each had its own theme be it paper, olives, tomatoes, alabaster, flag tossing, wine (delicious Montepulciano at €1.30 a bottle) or coloured leather handbags. No two shops sold the same thing, there were slight variations that made you visit each shop before purchasing! We have never been to the area before but the children knew it from the computer game Assassins Creed, which was remarkably accurate. They knew where all the sights and sites were before we got there and directed us! The driving was hard work – something would look 2km as the crow flies and SatNag would say 16km to go. SatNag was right – all twisty roads and not a roman straight line in sight. You got good shoulders and neck muscles from driving round! Wales without the rain John called it.

SO RELAXING AND FRIENDLY - CHRISTINE's review

@ Appartamento Porcilaia

Now we are back home (3 Weeks) I must let you know that we had the most beautiful stay in the Villa in Sienna and we have spoken greatly to our friends and family on the lovely place we stayed and the great meal Francesca and her family provided for us on the night we arrived. The Family were very welcoming and if we ever get the chance to come back we will definitely stay there. It was so relaxing and friendly.

OUR WEEK IN TUSCANY WAS BEYOND OUR EXPECTATIONS - SANDY AND PAUL's review

@ Appartamento Legnaia

Erica,

We arrived home last evening from our fabulous trip to Italy. I wanted you to know how much we appreciate all that you have done to answer our questions and make our stay at the beautiful Borgo La Chiusa so enjoyable. We just loved Tuscany!! Francesca was very helpful and has done a wonderful job in making the villa so warm and inviting.

Unfortunately, we left on Saturday morning and realized that we had forgotten to sign the guest book (which we talked about doing several times during the week). Please let Francesca and Rossolino know how much we loved their villa and the Tuscan hillsides. Our week in Tuscany was beyond our expectations and we would recommend La Chiusa to anyone looking to visit your beautiful country!!

Thank you once again for all that you did to make our holiday so special. We hope we are able to return again!!

Sandy & Paul

Dear Erica,

we're back home and (of course) sadly back to work. :-)

Everything worked fine down in Italy.

I (and we) would really like to say THANK YOU. You did a great job for us beforehand. We all enjoyed our holidays staying at this beautiful house (exept this really bad road out there) ;-)

And we had them all: wild boars, viper snakes, scorpions, porcupines.
But nothing happened ;-)

Best wishes to you.

TRUE RELAX - LAURENCE's review

@ Appartamento Porcilaia

We would Laurence, Nathan, Martine, Alex and me to thank you for the nice moments we spend in Borgo la Chiusa !!!
We were a little bit stress before the arrival for Nathan (our first baby) but Francesca was able to disappear this feeling in us ! We spend very good moments in Borgo, this is a marvelous house so keep it like that as long as you can !
Thank's for everythings and all the people who took care of stewardship.
Bye and we keep with us your mail and mobile phone if we have to join you for a futur rent !
Take Care.

MANON AND DENIS's review

@ Podere

If you do not mind driving a few km on a turning and twisting, but well maintained, mountain road to get to Radicondoli, this agriturismo is enough off the beaten tourist track to provide a little Eden of peace, beauty and history in the middle of Tuscany. Our children loved playing with the cats and dogs and herding the sheep with Pietro every day. He and Magdalena are generous and wonderful hosts and their agriturismo is exactly as it is described: a modern and comfortable house located on a real farm with panoramic views of the Tuscan countryside and within an hour's drive of Firenze and Sienna and everything in between. Their warm presence and the attention they have for their guests made our stay at their farm the highlight of our Tuscan vacation.

THANKS FOR A FANTASTIC HOLIDAY - PAUL AND SARAH 's review

@ Santa Lucia

I thought I'd drop you a note to say how much we enjoyed our holiday, and what a fantatsic time we had.
Mr and Mrs Faneschi were wonderful people who made us feel so at home, and were able to give recommendations on where to go and what to see.
The apartment Padronale was really comfortable and felt like a home from home. I'd say the photo's on your website don't give justice to the views and location of the apartment.

Please pass on our sincere thanks to Mr and Mrs Fanaschi. Our daughters have adopted them as surrogate grandparents and will cherish their memories of their time in Tuscany!!

LIVE THE REAL SICILIAN WAY OF LIFE - JOSEPHINE's review

@ La Macina

we want to say thank you for a wonderful holiday at the lovely "La Macina" in Aliminusa!

We enjoyed the time so so much… it`s such a great place for relaxing and live the real Sicilian way of life far away from the hole tourism. That was exactly what we looked for.

Salvatore and Pina cared for us so nice, also Don and Francesca… we`re very thankfull for that and very glad we met.

Please tell all of them many heartly greetings and all the best!

We`re missing Sicilia, we`re missing Aliminusa J

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING! - ANDI AND DAVID 's review

@ Elegante villa per ferie con piscina privata

Our stay at Il Doglio was magical. From the gorgeously maintained house, pool house and guest house, to the well-equipped kitchen, everything was there for a week of relaxing, dining and being together. We loved the antiques and the incredible library. At the end of a long hot day of touring, it was a real relief to see the cypress trees of Il Doglio at the end of the road! Thanks for everything!

HOPE TO RETURN ONE DAY - JEFF's review

@ Appartamento Porcilaia

We loved our stay at Borgo La Chiusa. The location was terrific for day trips. The accommodations were better than advertised. The bedrooms, baths and living areas were great and a welcome site after a long day in Sienna or a drive throughout the countryside. Our family or 4, including 2 teenage daughters, loved our time here and hope to return one day.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU STAY AT BORGO CHIUSA! - BEE's review

@ Appartamento Porcilaia

My sister in law and I loved our stay in La Porcilaia at Borgo Chuisa! The apt. is large, beautifully and currently decorated, and so clean. The beds were delightfully comfortable and the baths had roomy tiled showers and plenty of hot water - unlike most of the pricier Italian hotels. Having a kitchen was wondeful! We bought local pastries, wine, cheese, produce, bread, lavazza coffee, and enjoyed all these at our leisure. The area scenery is breathtaking, the local restaurants were very good and also inexpensive, so tour aound if you have a car. If you desire a truly lovely Italian experience, I highly recommend that you stay at Borgo Chuisa!

WE'LL DEFINITELY GO BACK! - MICHEL's review

@ Appartamento Legnaia

We can only give positive feedback about our stay in Borgo La Chiusa:
great location, quiete, beatiful scenery, and close to Sienna.
The house is nicely decorated, very very very clean, comfortable, it is even nicer than what you see on the pictures. When we return to Tuscany, we will definitely go back to this place.

I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK - TG's review

@ Appartamento Legnaia

Three friends and I rented the villa for 11 awesome days. Francesca and her family were wonderful. The place was immaculate and safe, close to all the little towns in Tuscany, and we traveled daily to places like Florence, Montepulciano, Siena and many others. There is everything one needs either on the property or a short way off. I can't wait to go back, and highly recommend Borgo la Chiusa. There are vineyards nearby and artichokes growing in neighboring yards. The fields of red poppies are a sight to behold.Italia is Bellisima....go!!!

This villa overlooking a spectacular Tuscan rolling hill vista was the highlight of our trip to Italy. Beautiful patios and courtyards; spacious, well-appointed and spotlessly clean rooms and owners who went out of their way to be hospitable. We had the larger of the two 'apartments' in the villa - 2 bedrooms upstairs and 2 down. The pool and the grounds were picture-perfect. Good bus service for trips into Sienna (about 15 minute direct bus ride) and to neighbouring towns (Rosia is the closest with a full grocery store but there is a super butcher in Volta Alta which is walkable from the villa). A rental car is best here but not entirely necessary.

We stayed at Borgo La Chiusa in May, 2010. This is actually when they were installing the new Travertine pool. We never were able to use it, but it sure looked stunning when they were finished!

There were (9) of us that rented both apartments. The location truly can't be beat. We had a large van and took several day trips to Florence, Siena, and various other hamlets in the region. Very close to highway access. A very nice, modern Coop grocery store was a frequent haunt for our group (located in Sovicille). We made several meals in the kitchen of the larger unit and had great group dinners on the large table there, with roaring fires in the fireplace (firewood is extra, but worth it!).

The interior of both units was incredible. Very modern bathrooms, comfortable beds, quality linens made this a wonderful package. The stone patio outside the largest unit is HUGE and had a wonderful fireplace-grill that we used to grill fresh Tuscan vegetables on.

Owners had limited English skills which made the transaction of paying the balance a bit difficult, but they were a charming young couple with obvious very-good taste!

ONE OF OUR MOST MEMORABLE STAYS - STEPHANE's review

@ Podere toscano di lusso

After three years still thinking about it as one of our most memorable stay...
It as everything for the tuscany lover. Loved the kitchen with the cosy atmosmphere, loved the full windowed lounge for all the meals, loved the rooms and , of course, love the outside pizza oven! If you realy want to taste Tuscany, villa Pietraio is the place.
Only negative point, You have to expect a little drive in the woods...
Thank you , it was magical

YOUR HOME IN UMBRIA - MEREDITH's review

@ Brunello

I can highly recommend this beautiful home in Umbria, Italy. I said home, but it is a new building with 3 apartments designed in the traditional style. Each unit is beautifully decorated and has everything you might need, including views and a pool. We were a group of 5 couples and occupied the entire building. Lucia and Sandro were our hosts and did everything they could to make our visit as enjoyable as possible. They made reservations at wineries for tastings, recommended restaurants and places to visit. I hope to return someday.
