Alina's Eco-Organic Farm
Alina’s farm sits in Umbria, right on the border with Tuscany.
Alina and her mother Lucia (plus the men in the family) run one of the best olive oil producing farms in the whole of Italy. It took them 40 years to get to the highest possible standards both in oil production and hospitality.
There is so much to say about this place that it is difficult to be concise. The first thing that strikes upon arrival is their genuine friendliness and passionate way of drawing you into their farm activities. Next is the speechless beauty of the place. Every single detail is so tendered yet so natural looking that one cannot imagine so much work actually goes on behind the scenes.
Their respect for intimacy and privacy of the guests is great. Their enthusiasm is infectious, but not intrusive at all. Alina, who is also a sommelier, may invite you for a wine tasting in their very charming cellar and draw you into the beauties of Umbrian and Tuscan wines with passion and knowledge… or maybe organise a cooking class with a local chef or just throw a pizza party.
As far as eco-friendliness, the houses are all built with a rain water recycling system, floor heating, solar panels, the farm is strictly organic, the olive trees are fed with the leftovers of the olive pressing. The farm also produces excellent honey.
All activities can be joined by guests – it is great for children who can see the whole process of honey making and olive oil production (the olive mill is inside the farm).
The farm house, built in 1893, is beautifully restored with modern comforts. It is surrounded by a large grass lawn with lemon trees, an extensive collection of old english roses, a great variety of many flowers and a vegetable garden. There is a bread oven, barbecue and a large private Infinity swimming pool with high-performance salt chlorinator (14 x 6m- 46 x 19,6ft ) with a maxi Jacuzzi.
The two cozy villas, named Frantoio and Leccino, are adjacent to the main house. Both have their own private patio and garden.
When in season, guests may take advantage of free produce (fruit, tomatoes, greens) from the vegetable garden.
A library of English language books is provided in each villa. You can browse the selection of art books, guides, maps, brochures and tourist information about the wonderful places to visit in the area.
The estate is located 1 km from the walled village, a perfectly restored 13th century medieval village located in a peaceful and scenic location. There is a view of Lake Trasimeno and the lights of Chiusi, Montepulciano and Cortona in the distance.
The town is constructed on the peak of a hill 400 meters above sea level. In 1992, the European Community named the village 'The ideal village'. It is known as one of the top ten villages in Italy for its idyllic setting and quality of life. The restaurants of the area serve typical cuisine representative of the rich Umbrian and Tuscan enogastronomic culture and tradition.
Less than a one hour drive from Alina's Farm, you can explore and enjoy Assisi, Perugia, Siena, Deruta, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Orvieto, Pienza, Cortona, Montefalco, Chiusi and a host of Etruscan architectural gems in Umbria and Tuscany.
From Chiusi, a one hour train trip brings you to the center of Rome or Florence. Trains leave in the morning and return in the evening providing a convenient way to visit these splendid cities without having to navigate the narrow streets and heavy traffic by car.
